The WSOP announced today that they're creating a "made for TV" event for the 2011 WSOP featuring heads-up rematches from previous Main Events. The main attraction is Sam Farha against Chris Moneymaker in a replay of the match that started the poker boom in 2003. Other matches on the schedule are a rematch between Phil Hellmuth and Johnny Chan from the 1989 WSOP and a match that is to be determined by the fans. You can choose Chan vs.

NBC Finals
The folks on another "poker news" website posted an article debating who had the tougher road to the NBC National Heads-Up Final. For those of you that don't know or don't care, Erik Seidel faced Chris Moneymaker in the finals. I figured I would give my opinions on who had the tougher route to the finals. These were Moneymaker's opponents: Round 1 - John Racener Round 2 - Daniel Cates Round 3 - Doyle Brunson Quarters - David Oppenheim Semis -  Jonathan Duhamel   These were Seidel's opponents: Round 1 - Allen Cunningham Round 2 - Jen Harman Round 3 - Phil Gordon Quarters - Vanessa Selbst Semis - Andrew Robl Let's look at Seidel's opponents first.

Moneymaker Seidel
The 2011 NBC National Heads-Up Championship has now concluded and I figured I would take a few moments to comment on the weekend. First, I realize that I got my initial overall pick wrong. Ivey disappointed me with an early first round exit, but my back-up pick of Erik Seidel came through. So apparently this wasn't the year Mizrachi had a deep run in the bracket.

Chris Moneymaker
The first player on my list of the 20 most influential people in poker really needs no introduction. In 2003, Chris Moneymaker came out of nowhere to win the Main Event after winning his entry via PokerStars. His win ushered in a whole new era known as the "Poker Boom" during which players numbering in the millions turned to the game of poker. [assets/Uploads/Blog/Chris-Moneymaker.

What is a successful poker player? A couple of months back, I was talking with someone who was trying to figure out whether they were a winning player. They went into how many big blinds they had won per hour and how much money they had won and lost in different sessions. They were worried that they were wasting their time with playing poker. My first question is one that I ask anyone that is worried about bankrolls, turning pro, etc.

Chris Moneymaker has had a good couple of weeks. First, he took down a PLO tournament during the preliminaries of the World Poker Open in Tunica, MS. He then turned around and made the final table of the Main Event of the WPO, ultimately finishing 3rd. Moneymaker earlier in the year finished 2nd in a preliminary event during the WSOP Circuit Event in Tunica.

Today is the day when most people consider that the WSOP truly begins. The $40,000 NL Holdem Event kicked off today to celebrate 40 years of the World Series of Poker. Two highly noticeable players that did not play in today’s event were Gus Hansen and Allen Cunningham. A lot of players are surprised at the fact that neither player showed up to play in the event.
