Something has to be done with the World Series Of Poker main event, after last years staggering amount of entrants something needs to be done. There was so many entrants that the first day of play was split up into 2 days, so what can they do to make the tournament better?
I think they should make the buyin $50,000, yes this ending the history of the $10,000 main event. But something has to be done, by making the entrance $50,000 the field will still be large because the payouts will be very juicy. There can still be qualifiers from the internet, it just means a lot less. I would estimate that if they make the $50,000 buy in for 2005 there would still be over 1200 entrants, which would make a prize pool of $60 million dollars. Imagine that a $60 Million dollar prize pool, now that would be entertainment with the winner taking home say $15-20million.
Another option could be to make the tournament on a qualification basis only, for example if you have already won a wsop bracelet in the past you are allowed to enter. If you haven't won a wsop bracelet then you would have to win a mini entrance tournament to get a seat.
There's no doubt about it that something has to be done, if they keep the $10k entrance and the growth rises accordingly from the last couple years there could be upwards of 4,000 entrants. They are going to be holding the event at Harra's this year which is a bigger place and they could probably bring in more tables, but do they let them all play on the first day? They would need like 100+ floor people and it would be a mess keeping the event organized.
This should be an interesting topic and I would love to see what everyone thinks on this matter, so let the discussions begin.
What should they do with the 2005 WSOP
