Some common mistakes:

- Not considering position when pondering a move. I usually dump 66-22 at a full table early on because I don't get to see what my opponents do and am "out of position". Problems will arise when you play borderline hands out of position and have really tough decisions to make. Plus, you can attempt a blind steal every now and then in late position or on the button with even the worst of hands if you play it correctly.

-Overvaluing weak aces, even when suited. The fact is, hands like this can get you in a lot of trouble. You usually won't hit your flush draw with Axs, and when you do hit it, you'll only get your flush about 35% of the time. If you hit an ace on the flop, you'll often be outkicked.

-Slowplaying and bluffing too frequently. Contrary to what you might think be watching the WPT, slowplaying and bluffing should not be attempted too often. You'll simply knock yourself out of the tournament by allowing other people to hit their cards. When you're playing a SnG, slowplaying before the flop may actually be a -EV move because the other players might not be around long enough to characterize your play. Just jam the pot most of the time with the best hand, and you'll be okay.

-Underbetting the pot is a common mistake. When you raise your opponent, you're probably losing some value when you simply double his bet. Sometimes, betting the pot (including his raise) is the correct and effective aggressive play.

-Overvaluing all suited cards in general is a mistake some beginning players make. J7s is a pretty poor hand to be playing. You'll flop a flush draw about one in seven times, and when you do actually hit your flush, you might be beaten with the nuts!
