The much-anticipated $50,000 Poker Players Championship headlined Day 33 of the 2011 WSOP, kicking off without Phil Ivey and with Doyle Brunson publicly speculating it could be his last poker tournament.

On the felt, Doug Booth and Greg Mueller led the event after Day 1.

In other news, Matt Matros also took down his second career bracelet in the $2,500 Mixed Hold'em Event.

No Ivey, Cloud Over Brunson as $50,000 Championship Starts

Easily the most anticipated event by the pros, the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship kicked off on Saturday.

At the end of the registration period, 128 players had taken their seat in this one, making the prize pool $6.1 million and first place $1.7 million - the largest prize thus far at the 2011 WSOP.

Phil Ivey failed to show up to this event.

Many had speculated whether he would, but he remains at Full Tilt Poker headquarters helping them to work out a deal to sell controlling interest to a European investment team.

Doyle Brunson did show up for this event. He has admittedly not had the passion to play poker since Black Friday, but it is hard to pass up an event of this magnitude.

He did speculate on his Twitter account that if he failed to play well in this event, it could mean the end of his tournament days.

The pace of play on Day 1 of this event is normally slow. With each player starting with 150,000 in chips, doubling-up is actually a fairly impressive feat.

After Day 1, Doug Booth leads with 324,600. Greg "FBT" Mueller is right behind with 322,700.

2007 50k HORSE Champion David Bach is currently in 5th and Vladimir Shchemelev is 6th with 248,000.

Shchemelev finished this event last year as the runner-up.

It is unlikely that Michael Mizrachi will repeat as champion as he sits with just 8,200 in chips and is the short stack going into Day 2 play.

Only 5 players busted on Day 1, leaving 123 players returning on Sunday.

Ladies Event Reaches Money and One Man Remains

The Ladies Event reached the money on Saturday and normally that isn't noteworthy except for the fact that Gretchen Brummer led a movement at the bubble to collect money for the unlucky bubble girl.

As a result, Brummer collected enough money to nearly give Wendy Cordiner her buy-in back.

That's something you will not see in any other event at the WSOP.

Just 14 players are left after two days of play and Valerie McColligan leads.

However, the story going into the final day is whether Jonathan Epstein will be the first man to make a Ladies Event final table.

Epstein is currently in 7th with 216,000.

This will be his only shot to do so as a law has been changed in Nevada that will allow casinos to legally exclude men from Ladies Events starting in January 2012.

Antonin Teisseire Wins $5,000 Triple Chance No-Limit Hold'em Event

Eric Froehlich was looking for his 3rd career bracelet on Saturday when he and three other players returned to battle for the $5,000 Triple Chance No-Limit Hold'em Bracelet.

Froehlich's quest for #3 would be denied as he was the first to fall at the final table. His pocket jacks were outflopped by Antonin Teisseire's As-Kh.

It would be Teisseire that would play heads-up with Darryl Ronconi for the bracelet.

The two started almost even in chips at the start of play, but Teisseire stole the lead from Ronconi and proceeded to dominate.

With just 1.5 big blinds left in his stack, Ronconi shoved with Qs-8c and Teisseire had him crushed with As-8h.

Four hearts on the board gave Teisseire a flush and his first bracelet.

Frenchman Antonin Teisseire takes his first bracelet and $825,604 in prize money. This is the third bracelet for France at the 2011 WSOP.

David Singontiko Wins $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Event

David Sands started as a dominating chip leader at beginning of 10-handed play.

However, Omaha is swingy and Sands found out the hard way after a couple of hands failed to get there.  Sands wound up being eliminated in 10th place.

David Singontiko started dominating this event with five players left.

He knocked out a couple of players and by the time he reached heads-up with Michael Yee, he had 3.7 million chips. Yee had just 375k and a long road to hoe.

The last hand saw Yee commit his stack with Ks-Qc5s-3c and Singontiko call with Ad10d8c5h.

The board ran out Js-8s-7c-6h-10h to give Singontiko two pair with a low and the bracelet victory.

To go along with his bracelet, Singontiko took home $268,235.

Matt Matros Wins $2,500 Mixed Hold'em For Second Career Bracelet

Both Matt Matros and Matt Hawrilenko would make the final table of the $2,500 Mixed Hold'em Event, and both were looking for their second bracelet.

Both made deep runs at this final table, but Hawrilenko fell to Matros in third place.

He was all-in with two pair on the flop and Matros held a flush draw. The flush got there on the turn and Hawrilenko failed to fill up.

Matros then battled Jonathan Lane for the bracelet. Lane has four cashes and one final table already at the 2011 WSOP.

Matros led Lane 3.25 million to 1.1 million, but Lane came ready to play. He battled back and took the chip lead for a bit, but Matros would prove too much on this day.

After knocking Lane down to around 850,000, Lane decided to gamble with Jd-10h. Matros picked up As-10 and made the easy call.

The board missed both and Matros had his second bracelet victory. Matros took home $303,501 in first place money as well as the bracelet.

Last $1k Donkament Begins

Also, the last $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Event kicked off Saturday with the first of two Day 1 starts.

A field of 1,932 started the day and 306 players survived Day 1 with Paul Volpe finishing as chip leader with 124,500.
