Day 1c kicked off on Wednesday at the 2010 WSOP. At times, the Main Event can be considered a circus, and the atmosphere today definitely fit the bill.
At the start of the day, most were interested to see who was in the field.
Among those playing on Day 1c were Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Annie Duke, Daniel Negreanu, Kathy Liebert, Matt Savage, Johnny Chan, Barny Boatman, Robert Mizrachi, Men "The Master" Nguyen, Tournament of Champions winner Huck Seed, 2008 Champ Jerry Yang, Howard Lederer and former champion Tom McEvoy.
However, no player had a bigger entrance than Phil Hellmuth.
As has been the case the last few year, Phil Hellmuth decided to come to the Main Event in full spectacle.
This year, he came to the Rio dressed as a UFC fighter and preceded by rappers and a whole crew of "fly honeys." UFC announcer Bruce Buffer announced Hellmuth and Hellmuth was joined into the Rio by UFC fighter Wanderlei Silva.
The number of entrants for Day 1c was 2,314, up from 1,696 last year. This represented a 36% increase for Day 1c year over year. Day 1d for this event was reopened and it is expected that tomorrow's crowd may approach 3,000 players.
Unfortunately, compncards' pick of Phil Hellmuth making a deep run in this Main Event will not come to fruition as Hellmuth was eliminated just after the dinner break. He never got much going and ran into pocket queens to seal his fate.
He exited the tournament area quietly to the cheers of fans, all while signing autographs and hamming it up for the cameras.
Big names that will not be returning Friday for Day 2a include Huck Seed, Tom Dwan, Men Nguyen, Scott Fischman, Heads-Up Champion Ayaz Mahmood, Chad Brown, and Shaun Deeb.
On the other hand, Daniel Negreanu, Annie Duke, Kristy Gazes, Sam Farha and David Ulliott are all still in contention.
The Top 10 in chips from this Day 1c is very pro heavy. Johnny Chan is unofficially 2nd in chips for Day 1c with 163,700. Lauren Kling is the top female player, currently with 149,650. Barny Boatman and Robert Mizrachi have 144k and 134k respectively.
Mathiu Sauriol unofficially finished the day with the chip lead of 168,900.
Day 1d will kick off Thursday at Noon PDT and is the last of the Day 1s for this event. The question now remains by how many this year's totals will beat last year's.
