Event #54 of the 2010 WSOP was the last $1,000 NL Holdem Event of this series. 3,844 players turned out for this last low buy-in event to take their shot at the bracelet and $570,960.

This event had two starting days just like all the other $1,000 NL events. By the end of Day 1b, only 586 players remained and could return on Day 2 to play to the money.

The money bubble was reached and among those cashing in this event were Toto Leonidas, James Dempsey, Nikolay Evdakov, George Lind, Al Krux, and Jesse Rockowitz.

The final table of this event really didn't have any superstar names, which is actually a rarity for this year's WSOP. Also, this final table had the rare distinction of being played out on Day 1a of the WSOP Main Event.

David Peters headed into the final table as the chip leader.

Here's how the final nine players started final table play:

Seat 1:  Henrick Tollefsen                   1,878,000

Seat 2:  Paul Kerr                                784,000

Seat 3:  Marcel Vonk                          2,253,000

Seat 4:  Dustin Dorrance-Bowman     794,000

Seat 5:  Mehul Chaudhari                   789,000

Seat 6:  Espen Moen                           443,000

Seat 7:  Nathan Jessen                       990,000

Seat 8:  Matthew Lupton                    973,000

Seat 9:  David Peters                          2,653,000

Heads-up play was between the two chip leaders at the start of the final table. Marcel Vonk held a 5.95 million to 5.6 million chip lead over David Peters heading into heads-up play. Heads-up action was a see-saw affair that saw both players holding the chip lead.

Peters actually took over the lead for a while and threatened to run away with the bracelet, but Vonk woke up with two big hands and was able to double up both times to move up to 10 million in chips.

With just around 1 million in chips, David Peters moved all-in with Ks-8c and was called by Vonk with Ah-3h. An A-8-7 flop gave both a pair, with Vonk holding the lead. Peters was unable to catch either a king or another eight, and Marcel Vonk is our champion.

Marcel Vonk takes the last $1,000 NL Holdem bracelet of the year and $570,960. And next time we will be playing holdem it's the WSOP Main Event, the tournament everybody is waiting for.

Congratulations.
