Monday, Jul 5, 2010 2010 WSOP Ante-Up for Africa Charity Event - Phil Gordon Defeats Shannon Elizabeth for Title
The fourth annual "Ante-Up For Africa" charity tournament was held Saturday at the 2010 WSOP. 84 players turned out to battle for charity and a top prize of $130,641.
While this is considered a charity tournament, Nevada law prohibits the WSOP from withholding any money from the prize pool. As such, it is the choice of each player what they will donate. It is commonly expected that a player will donate at least part of their winnings.
This event had many pros and several big name celebrities in the field. Among the celebrities in the field were Matt Damon, Montel Williams, Evander Holyfield, Don Cheadle, David Alan Grier, Jerome Bettis, and Shannon Elizabeth. Howard Lederer, Annie Duke, Phil Ivey, Rafe Furst, Erik Seidel, and Joe Hachem were among the pros in the event.
Only the final table was paid in this event. Jerome Bettis, Shannon Elizabeth, Erik Seidel, Carter Phillips and Phil Gordon all made the final table. Alex Filatov was the chip leader heading into final-table play. Here are the starting chip counts:

Heads-up play was between Phil Gordon and Shannon Elizabeth. He held a more than 4-1 chip lead with 685,000 to just 155,000 for Elizabeth. Heads-up play did not last long as Elizabeth moved all-in from the button for 125,000 with Kc-10h and Gordon made the call with Qh-3s.
The flop fell queen-high to give Gordon the lead. The turn then fell the Ah to give Elizabeth outs to a straight. However, the river fell the 5d to make Phil Gordon our champion.
Phil Gordon is the Ante-Up for Africa Champion. He immediately donated his entire $130,641 prize to charity. Gordon also made the final table of this event last year and donated his entire prize purse from that event as well.
